Cool, California, March 10. Gary Gellin and Tyler Stewart broke course records at the 23rd annual Way Too Cool 50K, the nation’s largest 50K race. Gellin, of Menlo Park, California, outlasted 2001 Ultra Runner of the Year Rich Hanna for the win.

Ultra168 caught up with Lizzy to get some more insight into what she’s got planned for this year, who she admires on the scene, as well as the most important thing we want to bring to you guys – more advice on how to tackle ultras.
Mike Morton continued his recent comeback with a new course record at the 18th annual Umstead 100. Morton took the lead early in the race and was an hour clear of runner-up Jim Sweeney by the finish.
In a stroke of miraculous luck and hospitality, I found myself in the middle of some Sahara Desert sand dunes on a training run with Rachid El Morabity, the 2011 Marathon des Sables men’s champion.
Gone were the really high temperatures of the previous two stages, however runners on stage 3 of the 2012 Marathon des Sables had to cope with high winds making visibility and breathing conditions at lot more difficult…
This weekend saw the staging of the 25th Coburg 24 Hour Race. This is an internationally renowned event with competitors this year from Belgium, China and England as well as from all over Australia. The event also included a 24 hour walking race.
As the sun set on the final 15km stage of this year’s event, it was to be a gun to tape win for French super-woman Laurence Klein as she collected the overall women’s prize. Salameh Al Aqra took a highly popular win in the men’s race, after a gruelling week…
...Of course this doesn’t mean that ultra trail hasn’t been around for a very long time, but the propensity of big races around the world at the moment is staggering.
