The Al Andalus Ultra Trail is a very tough 5 day, 5 stage race of around 230km.
The course can be tackled solo, or a member of a 3-person team-relay in case you don't feel up to all 5 stages. All members to do the first stage and the final stage. Teams decide which member will do stage 2, 3 and 4.
The race provides a very demanding test not just for your legs but for your character and determination. Temperatures are high ( 35-45C ), numerous climbs and long trails are scenic and demanding. Over 90% is off-road, mountain and desert tracks with the majority of tarmac in the final kilometers when you are approaching the stage village finishes.
The route is over hostile, mountainous terrain and finishes each day in a campsite or close to a picturesque Andalusian village. As organizers, we want the race to be a tough challenge, which it most definitely is, but also an opportunity to visit and enjoy the local culture and ambiance of the Poniente de Granada region of Granada Province.
Interaction between the village inhabitants and competitors is important for the race and a good example of how sports tourism can benefit a region. We rely heavily on the support of the towns, villages, various tourist information departments and Regional Government and ask that all competitors treat the local people and the environment with respect.
